Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose: An increase in p-wave dispersion (PWd) has been shown in acute myocardial infarction (MI). The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the time of initiation of chest pain and PWd in acute anterior MI. Methods: Electrocardiograms of 120 patients who had been admitted to the hospital in the first four hours at the beginning of chest pain secondary to acute anterior MI were recorded. First, the patients were grouped into two groups, according to chest pain initiation times, as those admitted in ≤ 2 hours and those admitted in two to four hours. The first group was subdivided into two groups as those presenting in the first hour and those between one and two hours of chest pain. PWd changes at the first diagnostic electrocardiography were compared with the time of chest pain initiation. Results: When the patients, who had presented before and after two hours were compared, a significant difference was determined between the PWd (36±13 ms vs. 53±15 ms, p
