BILATERAL IMPACTED CANINES WITH TRANSMIGRATION
NEELAM MITTAL
Abstract
Any permanent tooth that is unerupted for more than an year after the normal age of eruption, is considered to be impacted. Transmigration is defined as the phenomenon of more than half an unerupted impacted tooth crossing the midline. Transmigration typically affects the mandibular canines but occur rarely in maxillary canines as well. Transmigrated canines usually remain impacted and asymptomatic or they ectopically erupt at the midline or on the opposite side of the arch. Transmigrating teeth can cause pressure resorption of roots or tilting of adjacent teeth. We report a case with of transmigration of left lower canine with bilateral impaction.
